Joy this big is contagious

This was taken at the lake last year about this time. It always makes me smile.

so much grey for such a little green

Instead of throwing a few good buckets on us, it's been grey and every drop has to be squeezed out. Painfully. A few sprouts of green, but that's it.

Wal-Mart is effective at not paying taxes in Wisconsin.

Stumbled across this while looking for other information, but interesting, nonetheless. All information courtesy of the Institute for Wisconsin's Future:

Wal-Mart responded to IWF’s recent criticism of its tax-avoidance by bragging publicly about how effective it is at not paying taxes in Wisconsin. A Wal-Mart spokeswoman said the giant company uses the so-called REIT tax loophole to avoid corporate income taxes from 84 of its 89 state stores.

Wal-Mart’s comments came in response to a column by Mike Ivey in the Capital Times newspaper, which relied on IWF data.

»Read Ivey’s original column.
»See Wal-Mart’s response.
»See IWF’s sidebar on Wal-Mart, published as a part of our Broken Partnerships report.
»See a report on Wal-Mart tax avoidance by Citizens for Tax Justice.

Days that start delicately balanced between hope and trepidation are always the most terrifying.

Nothing screams TUESDAY! like a little Grandma

Rain poured down this morning for all of 15 minutes.
Jake caught it coming down.
BUT I CAUGHT IT AFTERWARDS ON MY TOMATOES. It all comes back to the tomato, people.

Stepping out.

The first, gigantic tomato from my garden made its debut. Unfortunately, it is a little battle scarred. Just because it was the first tomato on the vine doesn't mean it had an easy life. It fought for its place in the tomato world.

(You can't really tell that it is about the size of a softball without a scale object. I didn't think that far ahead.)
